It seems like I’m the last person to see this. I really like it. It doesn’t seem as inane to me as I’ve read others say it is. I guess it depends on the motion the gestures require. Then again, I’m a bit worried about the Wii controller requiring too much motion, but we’ll see.

I routinely read Seth Godin in my catchup list. I “catch-up” on his postings about once every two weeks or month (or two).
I really liked this blog entry, about the culture of dissatisfaction. It’s something we’ve been talking about at church for a while. I’ve called it a feeling of entitlement.
It’s good to be treated well, and there’s nothing wrong with expecting it. But to believe oneself entitled to such treatment at the expense of other customers or even the dignity of the person providing the service shows unreasonable pride.
I don’t consider myself a preacher of anything in particular despite my faith, but I find it pretentious for oneself to think of themselves as better than others without cause. By “without cause” I mean that I certainly wouldn’t consider a serial killer as good as most other people.
Fortunately, Seth does offer a solution: relationships. So does the religion that I belong to: the family. By making the family the center of your life, you gain satisfaction with at least something in your life. By serving and putting others first on a constant basis, you remember why it is that life is so wonderful.
Sorry, just had to rant. We now return to our regularly scheduled coding blog.
LispSea = Lisp in Seattle. It’s a group of lispers starting up in the Puget Sound area. If you’re into Lisp and live in Seattle, and there are a few from the Frappr group I’ve seen, then come join. I plan on being there.
Interesting little test for programmers. It’s only a dozen questions long, and not very comprehensive, but it’s not a joke either. Still, while I agree with its results regarding myself, I think it’s too narrow to really make a statement.
My results are below.

You’re a Doer.
You are very quick at getting tasks done. You believe the outcome is the most important part of a task and the faster you can reach that outcome the better. After all, time is money.
You like coding at a Low level.
You’re from the old school of programming and believe that you should have an intimate relationship with the computer. You don’t mind juggling registers around and spending hours getting a 5% performance increase in an algorithm.
You work best in a Solo situation.
The best way to program is by yourself. There’s no communication problems, you know every part of the code allowing you to write the best programs possible.
You are a liBeral programmer.
Programming is a complex task and you should use white space and comments as freely as possible to help simplify the task. We’re not writing on paper anymore so we can take up as much room as we need.
