Ratification of R6RS
The standard for the latest version of Scheme, the Revised6 Reference for the Algorithmic Language Scheme, is up for ratification. The new standard includes a number of enhancements, perhaps the most essential (for lay programmers such as myself) being a standard module system.
Matthias Felleisen, one of the principals of the PLT Scheme project, has encouraged anyone and everyone who desires to participate to register as a potential voter. Note: Registering does not guarantee a vote. (I would not be surprised if my own registration were turned down.)
Anyone who reads this blog knows my affection for the Lisp language family, and Scheme in particular. It’s true, it’s not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction I feel. As someone who’s spent quite a bit of time developing with and within scheme lately, I feel they have moved in the right direction.
Please take some time to read the revised standard at the R6RS website. You’ll be glad you did.
